Lalit: Did you know that Benedict Cumberbatch will be the voice for
Smaug, as well as the Necromancer? I thought they will end the trailer with the dragon speaking, but
I guess they still want to keep his voice a mystery. And I am okay with that. That being said, it was an
excellent trailer. What do you think about Orlando Bloom though?
Tarun: His character isn't there in the book so let's hope it's not
forced. Also it was a long trailer considering the release date is 6 months
away. I don't think I'll be watching any trailers after this one
Varun: Haha typical TP.
Tarun: Aapko kaisa laga sir?
Varun: Very good. Obviously I’d enjoy trailers more on my laptop than
my mobile. Or how Lallan (Lalit) shows them at his place with the home theater
on.
Lalit: Haha. But this trailer did the job of creating the right amount
of excitement. If you see it in terms of the franchise, you could say that we
"finally" saw the dragon. But if you see it as a standalone movie,
then they have shown too much. Considering that they completed the principal filming
of all three movies together, it is a good gesture towards the fans.
Tarun: Definitely. I thought they'd save the dragon for the last movie.
I haven't read the book so I don't know the story.
Lalit: Yes, but I think the dragon will die in this movie.
Tarun: Abbey spoiler saale.
Lalit: Haha, but the spoiler is in the title
Tarun: I don't want to think about that. Actually I didn't read the
full title. Excitement mein.
Lalit: "Desolation of Smaug". You are welcome. I just hope it
will not be too weird to see a talking dragon on screen.
Tarun: The animation does look a bit off.
Lalit: Yes, but maybe they are still working on that.
Tarun: Let's hope they are. Even that text looks a bit cheesy but it won't
be in the film so no harm done.
Lalit: Yes, true about the text. Seemed a little rushed.
Tarun: But all of this still doesn't take away from the excitement.
Lalit: I hope they do not force Gollum into the story. I think his job
was done. They should not include Gollum in the story just because he is an
iconic character.
Tarun: As a fan, i'm hoping he does come back.
Lalit: But how will they extend his story?
Tarun: They can't. Unless somehow
he's been following them. But very unlikely.
Lalit: We will have to wait and find out. Even I am hoping he makes an
appearance.
Tarun: Yes six months to go. Judging by the length of this trailer we
can expect a 4 minute trailer in November. Have any of you read the book?
Varun: Lol I speak for all of us. NO.
Lalit: Hahahaha

Wait, principal photography was done together? That's brilliant! Almost takes out the human element (of aging) from it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the actors providing the voice are hardly important to me. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think an actor has ever voiced a character bad. Maybe some do make characters epic, like with Shrek's Donkey, but I've never felt somebody was bad with it.
Yes, and if I'm not mistaken, the principal photography of the LOTR films were also done together.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, the casting of the voice actors is usually top-notch. But it's not the voice of the actor that worries me, it's the fact that there will be a talking dragon in the movie. I'm just wondering if it would have been more effective if the dragon would have been just a dragon rather than being a conversational "bloke". I don't know, maybe it will be too Harry-Potterish. Or maybe it will be something amazing. I'm hoping for the latter. And given that Peter Jackson is manning the helm, I'm fairly positive it will be the latter. I just have this little ounce of doubt in me which I would prefer gets squashed. COME ON DECEMBER.
Wow I didn't know LOTR was shot in one go
